"Hip-hop is making more peace in this world than anything else"
PHILADELPHIA, PA (NOVEMBER 4, 2024)
Since 1973, when DJ Kool Herc threw his party at 1520 Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx (New York, USA), hip-hop has been on a constant global ascent regarding its societal and cultural impact.
The DJs, MCs, graffiti writers, and B-boys of today can trace the inception of the culture back to a borough that was in flames.
Where DJs scrambled to get two copies of a rare vinyl due to some obscure repeating beat or "get down."
Where graffiti artists risked their freedom to create multi-car pieces of urban tapestry on the city's various subways and elevated trains.
Where B-boys and girls would battle each other for reputation in front of massive crowds at parties in city parks with their dance skills and styles of dress.
And finally, where MCs "moved [the] crowd" with words aligned to the beats of the DJs' music, later overtaking the DJ as the showman within hip-hop music.
Entering 2025, over 40 years since that party in the Bronx, what is considered hip-hop music, rap, or something different can be debated at barbershops and record stores the world over. However, what is not up for debate is the undeniable influence of hip-hop on music, fashion, language, dance, and sport around the world.
In the past year, Broad & Wolf has had the pleasure and honor of working with some of the most talented and esteemed artists currently active in hip-hop, which has enabled us firsthand to connect into fanbases in countries such as Denmark, Greece, Italy, and Spain. All of our projects and case studies have been challenging and rewarding, but we are only just starting.
Earth is massive and hip-hop is as well, so in November 2024, Broad & Wolf is proudly launching the Global Foundation for Hip-Hop, a network of individuals and organizations from around the world committed to:
Through the Global Foundation for Hip-Hop, Broad & Wolf aims to bring even more talent together in the coming years, from artists to management to technologists, in order to help the what created this culture in the early 1970s to continue to be a positive influence for peace and love in the world.
Thank you for continuing to invite us along on this incredibly humbling journey working with legends around the globe!
Peace and Love,
The Broad & Wolf Family
